Ahmad Mayes
Ahmad Mayes recently returned to his native city of Atlanta as an accomplished youth orchestra administrator, music educator, and musician. Most recently, Ahmad served as the Director of Operations & Artistic Administration for Youth Orchestras of San Antonio (YOSA), where he was integral in the creation of the YOSA Music Learning Center, an El Sistema inspired orchestra program that is now in its third year serving impoverished youth in San Antonio, Texas.
During his time with the organization, YOSA experienced significant growth in its program offerings, staff and faculty size and diversity, operating budget, and charitable support. In 2010, Ahmad was selected by American Express as one of seven League of American Orchestras member grant recipients to participate in the American Express Nonprofit Leadership Academy, an intense week-long program for emerging nonprofit leaders. Ahmad is a graduate of Florida State University with a BME in Music Education and an MA in Arts Administration.
As a musician, Ahmad has performed in the horn sections of the Tallahassee, Albany, and Gainesville Symphonies, the Atlanta Wind Symphony, and was a member of the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra. Many of his private students have been accepted into state and district honor ensembles in Florida and have continued their study of music at the collegiate level.
Ahmad is currently the Community Programs Coordinator at the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
