THE ATLANTA MUSIC PROJECT ANNOUNCES OPENING FOR VIOLIN TEACHING ARTIST

Statement of Job:
In alignment with the Atlanta Music Project (AMP) mission, the Violin Teaching Artist will be responsible for the training of AMP violin students and the artistic development of the upper strings section of AMP student orchestras.
Responsibilities:
- Learn, understand and represent the AMP philosophies for uplifting youths, families and communities through the pursuit of musical excellence
- Choose, prepare and/or arrange appropriate repertoire for violin lessons/upper string classes and occasionally, string orchestra
- Submit detailed lesson plans as requested
- Teach violin group lessons and lead upper string sectionals 4-6 times per week during after-school hours
- Teach private and/or semi-private violin lessons as part of the AMP Academy
- Coordinate and cooperate with AMP administrators in keeping track of AMP students’ attendance and musical progress
- Form effective partnerships with fellow AMP teaching artists through planning and co-teaching
- Aid in defining and assessing musical learning outcomes and curriculum
- Attend peer exchange and professional development workshops
- Execute additional administrative tasks as necessary
- Perform on violin in paid chamber music concerts with other AMP Teaching Artists
Ideal candidate will possess:
- Passion for music as a vehicle for positive social change
- Experience working (music-related or other) with disadvantaged, urban/rural youth
- Exemplary music performance ability/experience on violin
- Exemplary violin teaching ability (group lesson experience a plus)
- Experience leading string section rehearsals
- Ability to inspire, work with and mentor youths ages 6 and up
- Excellent inter-personal skills and be comfortable working in a team
- Ability to adapt, be flexible and have a sense of humor
- Desire to help AMP develop into a nationally-recognized music training program
- A Bachelor and/or Master of Music (preferred)
Notes: Pay rate is $50/hour for teaching 6-12 hours/week, minimum 30 weeks. Background check required. AMP program schedule offers some flexibility for freelancing gigs.
