Camille Love at AMP Summer Concert 2011

Former Executive Director, Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs

Camille Love, the former Executive Director of the City of Atlanta Mayor's Office of Cultural, was instrumental in helping AMP to flourish from a new program and an established youth music organization. Here, Camille reminisces about her collaborations with AMP, and shares her thoughts on arts, youth, and Atlanta.

What are your most memorable moments from your time as Executive Director of Cultural Affairs at the City of Atlanta?

I distinctly remember the day you came to my office with your idea about the Atlanta Music Project.

What made AMP a fit for the Gilbert House, the City of Atlanta Recreation center that was the original program site for the Atlanta Music Project?

We were exploring the idea of an after school program, the Culture Club, and wanted to include different areas of culture. The goals of the Atlanta Music Project and the Culture Clubs were aligned.

What are your favorite concerts performed by AMP's Gilbert House or South Bend Recreation Center students?

The participation of the AMP students with Roger Waters at his concert had to be a highlight for me as it was for them!

Why are the arts important for Atlanta's youth?

The arts are the best way to expand the learning experience for all children but especially children from distressed communities where exposure is everything.

What are your hopes and dreams for the arts in Atlanta?

My hopes and dreams for the Arts in Atlanta is that a dedicated funding stream to support the basic operations of Arts organizations can be created
