THE AMP center
Opened in 2019, the Atlanta Music Project Center for Performance & Education is AMP’s first ever headquarters space. The building is located in the Capitol View neighborhood, walking distance to the Oakland City MARTA station and a few blocks away from the Atlanta Beltline.
The building hosts AMP’s office space, and is equipped with 10 dedicated rehearsal for music classes, and a 150-seat performance hall. AMP is proud to be a Steinway Select School, with all pianos within our facility being Steinway & Sons instruments.
The AMP Center is available for rental for recitals, conferences, and corporate events. To submit a rental inquiry, please complete this form.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the AMP Center took place on May 22, 2019 upon the successful completion of a $3MM capital campaign, led by the Chestnut Family Foundation, the Chick-fil-A Foundation, and the Woodruff Foundation. The architects were Atelier 7 Architects and the construction company was Horizon Construction.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was hosted by well-known Atlanta news anchor Fred Blakenship, and featured performances by Lecrae, alongside the AMP Youth Orchestras and Choirs. Public officials in attendance also included Joyce Sheperd, former Atlanta City Council member for District 12, and Camille Love, former Director of Cultural Affairs for the City of Atlanta.
The performance hall can accommodate up to 150 audience members, with flexible staging and seating configurations to accommodate all types of performances. The hall features a Steinway & Sons Concert Grand Piano Model B, purchased in 2023. Full A/V capabilities are available, including a large projector screen, audio recording, and video recording. Acoustical consulting on the hall was provided by Threshold Acoustics.
The rehearsal room hallway features 10 state-of-art Wenger Soundlock rooms, designed specially for the AMP Center. There are two large rehearsal rooms each equipped with Boston Grand Pianos, and two chamber music rooms each equipped with Boston Upright pianos. Additionally there are six rehearsal rooms for individual practice.
The breakroom is perfect for supporting your event’s culinary needs, with plenty of space for your caterer to stage their food and equipment.
The AMP Center came with a long, beautiful brick wall on the Hartford Street side, begging for a mural. At the suggestion of neighborhood residents, AMP commissioned local artist Ashley Dopson. Ashley’s mural, titled the Flight of the Fireflies, was completed in the summer of 2019. It tells the story of AMP and features imagery of real AMP participants, famous guests artists that have performed with AMP, and legacy musicians that inspire us all. Just let the fireflies - a staple of growing up in the deep south - guide you through Ashley’s wonderful piece. The Flight of the Fireflies mural is perfect for that authentic “Atlanta” picture you want to share with your friends and family.
