December has been a busy month for all the AMP ensembles, but especially for the AMP Afterschool Winds ensemble, who performed at the AMP Center for Performance & Education this past Friday, December 9th, and also at City Hall, Tuesday, December 13th. The AMP Afterschool Winds ensemble was invited to perform at the Mayor’s annual Holiday Concert.  It is a special honor for this particular ensemble to perform for City Staff and Faculty as the AMP Afterschool program is a direct partnership with the City of Atlanta. In partnership with the City of Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation, the AMP Afterschool Orchestra program provides instruction in band and orchestra instruments. All music classes take place within the after-school programs of the Department of Parks and Recreation.

The young musicians were absolutely thrilled for the opportunity to meet and perform for Mayor, Andre Dickens. They also had the chance to meet longtime AMP supporter Councilman Antonio Lewis, who took extra time to speak and cheer on the young musicians after their performance. The students also marveled at the architecture of the City Hall building and loved the holiday decorations. 5th grade trombonist, Elijah Sullivan spoke about the performance, “This is such a cool building, I’m really proud of myself for performing in a place like this, I know my mom will be proud too!”
