AMP Summer Series

About AMP Summer Series:

The Atlanta Music Project Summer Series is a 4-week music festival and school, based in the Capitol View neighborhood in Southwest Atlanta.  The 2024 AMP Summer Series will be held in two sessions during June 2024 and feature symphony orchestra, string orchestra, wind ensemble, choir, chamber ensembles and several concerts by AMP students, faculty, and guest artists. The AMP Summer Series serves novice, intermediate and advanced musicians in grades 4  through 12.  Rising fourth graders and seniors who finished high school in 2024 are eligible.

2024 AMP Summer Series Session I – Large Ensembles

  • June 3, 2024 to June 21, 2024
  • For intermediate & advanced band, orchestra and choir students
  • Grades 6 to 12 (including rising 6th graders)
  • Completed Teacher Recommendation Form required

2024 AMP Summer Series Session II – Chamber Music

  • June 24, 2024 to June 28, 2024
  • For advanced high school band, orchestra and choir students
  • Students will be placed in chamber ensembles
  • Grades 9 to 12 (including rising 8th graders)
  • Audition video required
  • Completed Teacher Recommendation Form required

2024 AMP Summer Series Session II  – Elementary Ensembles

  • June 24, 2024 to June 28, 2024
  • For elementary band, orchestra and choir students
  • Grades 4 & 5 (including rising 4th graders)
  • Participants must have some experience on their instrument

In order to participate, students must commit fully to attending Session I and/or Session II:

AMP SUMMER SERIES SESSION II: June 24, 2024 to June 28, 2024

All accepted applicants will receive a full-tuition scholarship to attend the AMP Summer Series. Daily lunch and afternoon snack are provided. AMP has instruments available for loan during the program.

Eligibility Requirements for Prospective Applicants

SESSION I – Large Music Ensembles – June 3 to June 21, 2024

  • Must have been in 5th through 12th grade during the 2023-2024 school year; or currently a rising college freshman
  • Instruments accepted: voice, violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, clarinet, bass clarinet oboe, bassoon, French horn, trumpet, trombone, bass trombone, orchestral percussion
  • Intermediate Instrumentalists: 2+ years of playing experience on instrument to be played at 2024 AMP Summer Music Series; prior band or orchestra experience and the ability to read music is strongly recommended. Repertoire to be performed is Level 2 and up.
  • Advanced Instrumentalists: 4+ years of playing experience on instrument to be played at 2024 AMP Summer Series; private lessons, band or orchestra experience and the ability to read music is strongly recommended. Repertoire to be performed will be Level 4 and up, to include standard orchestral literature.
  • Vocalists: must have minimum 1 year choir experience
  • Prospective applicant’s music teacher or youth music ensemble director must complete AMP’s Teacher Recommendation Form
  • In order to ensure the best musical experience for students and faculty, all participants of the AMP Summer Series must commit to attending the entire session and be available to attend all classes and performances. Absences, late arrivals and early pick-ups will render a student eligible for dismissal from the program.

SESSION II – Chamber Music – June 24 to June 28, 2024

  • Must have been in 8th through 12th grade during the 2023-2024 school year; or currently a rising college freshman
  • Instruments accepted: voice, violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, clarinet, bass clarinet oboe, bassoon, French horn trumpet, trombone, bass trombone, orchestral percussion,
  • For advanced instrumentalists and vocalists
  • 4+ years of playing experience on instrument to be played at 2024 AMP Summer Series; 2+ year of private lessons strongly recommended; ability to read music is required. No chamber music playing experience required
  • Vocalists: must have minimum 2 year choir experience
  • Audition video is required

  • Instruments accepted: voice, violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, clarinet, bass clarinet oboe, bassoon, French horn trumpet, trombone, bass trombone, orchestral percussion
  • For Instrumentalists: it is strongly recommended to have at least six months of  playing experience on instrument to be played at 2024 AMP Summer Music Series
  • Vocalists: all are welcome
  • In order to ensure the best musical experience for students and faculty, all participants of the AMP Summer Series must commit to attending the entire session and be available to attend all classes and performances. Absences, late arrivals and early pick-ups will render a student eligible for dismissal from the program.

AMP Summer Series

Session I Camp Details

Location: The New Schools at Carver 55 McDonough Blvd SE, Atlanta, GA 30315

Duration: 3 Weeks

  • June 3, 2024 to June 21, 2024
  • Program Schedule: Monday through Friday 9:00AM – 5:00PM (no classes on June 19 in observance of Juneteenth)
  • Classes to include sectional rehearsal, string orchestra, wind orchestra, choir, music theory, ear training, electives
  • All students will perform in multiple concerts
  • Faculty of professional musicians
  • Eligible Instruments: voice, violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, oboe, bassoon, French horn, trumpet, trombone, bass trombone, tuba, orchestral percussion
  • Instruments will be provided by AMP for any student who does not own an instrument
  • Fees: $25.00 Registration Fee ($10 for siblings), Full Scholarship for all students

  • Program Schedule: Monday through Friday 9:00AM – 5:00PM
  • Classes to include chamber ensemble rehearsals, individual practice time, masterclasses/studio classes
  • All students will perform in final chamber music concert
  • Faculty of professional musicians
  • Eligible Instruments: voice, violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, oboe, bassoon, French horn, trumpet, trombone, bass trombone, tuba, orchestral percussion
  • Instruments will be provided by AMP for any student who does not own an instrument
  • Fees: $25.00 Registration Fee ($10 for siblings), Full Scholarship for all students

Session II – Elementary Ensembles
