This recent announcement marks the second time The Coca-Cola Foundation has supported The Atlanta Music Project with funds to support their educational and youth development initiatives.
First quarter 2011, the Coca-Cola Foundation awards grants totaling more than $6 million to 31 organizations across the United States. The grants focus on active, healthy living; water stewardship; community recycling; education and youth development; and community, arts and culture. Committed to investing time, expertise and resources to help develop and maintain vibrant, sustainable and local communities, the foundation recently awarded $50,000 to The Atlanta Music Project (AMP), an Atlanta-based organization focused on changing the lives of poor Atlanta youth through classical music instruction.
“Supporting youth development is a priority at The Coca-Cola Company,” said Ingrid Saunders Jones, Chairperson, The Coca-Cola Foundation. “The Atlanta Music Project is an ideal avenue for our youth to cultivate their passion for music, develop their study skills, and join in mentoring sessions.”
The Atlanta Music Project was one of six Atlanta-metro community organizations that received first quarter funding. Others included Christ the King School, The Georgia Charter Schools Association, Truancy Intervention Project Georgia Inc., Wesleyan School Inc., and Morehouse College. Last August 2010, The Coca-Cola Foundation awarded AMP $30,000 to launch their pilot afterschool music and choir program at the Office of Cultural Affairs’ Gilbert House in Southwest Atlanta.
