On June 13, 2012, Atlanta Music Project students took a break from their orchestral instruments for a different kind of concert: a live performance with Roger Waters, the former bassist of Pink Floyd! The students arrived at Philips Arena a few hours before showtime to rehearse with Roger Waters and grab a pizza dinner. Then around 8:25, it was showtime. They performed brilliantly for an audience of well over 10,000. Check out this video I took with my phone from the live performance.
If you don’t know much about Roger Waters (like I didn’t), you definitely want to check out this recent 60 Minutes segment on him and his current world tour known as “The Wall.” It really puts this amazing opportunity for our students in context. If you look carefully, during the segment you can see kids from Argentina performing the same song, on the same set with Roger Waters.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution also covered the concert. You can read their article here.
Thank you to Roger Waters, Live Nation and the City of Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs for making this happen for the students of the Atlanta Music Project.
