HAPPY NEW YEAR!

As you reflect on your impact throughout 2025, the Atlanta Music Project is honored to celebrate with you. For hundreds of young musicians, your support led to inspiring achievements, transformative growth, and unforgettable moments.

These moments are a testament to our talented students, the guidance of their passionate teaching artists, and your unwavering support.

Now here are the top ten moments in 2025 that you helped make possible for a extraordinary group of young people!

To reinforce the value of individual practice, AMP challenged our young musicians to commit to practicing everyday for one month. We then hosted a party, with tasty mocktails, honoring the successful musicians!

The AMP Junior Youth Orchestra and Senior Youth Choir were invited to perform for the National Black Child Development Institute’s annual conference at the beautiful Signia by Hilton hotel in downtown Atlanta.

The German Consulate invited the AMP Senior Youth Orchestra Winds to perform at their celebration of German Unity Day. The ensemble performed both the German and American national anthems. Our students also enjoyed German cuisine, and learned about cultural and business ties between Germany and the US Southeast.

Launched in 2023, our annual Music School College Fair attracts the country’s top music schools to AMP to recruit young people interested in pursuing music degrees. In 2025, the interest from schools grew so big that our friends at Ebenezer Baptist Church graciously offered to host the event, where full scholarships were secured!

We were honored to hold our Summer Series “AMP Cafe” this year at All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Midtown Atlanta on Juneteenth. Our chamber music ensembles performed music inspired by the “Sounds of Freedom” for an enthusiastic audience.

The legendary Uniting Voices Chicago (formerly the Chicago Children’s Choir) toured to Atlanta and partnered with the AMP Junior Youth Choir for a joint performance at Wieuca Church in Buckhead. The exchange of musical ideas was a high point for all!

The incomparable Tamara Dworetz guest conducted the AMP Youth Orchestras at our spring concert. Maestra Dworetz conducts all over the country and internationally and challenged our students with new musical ideas and perspectives.

The AMP Class of 2025 are a stellar cohort boasting: a 100% college acceptance rate, a 92% college enrollment rate, and with 63% still participating in music ensembles while in college. Our phenomenal Senior Sendoff speakers – corporate executive Qaadirah Abdur-Rahim and cellist Denielle Wilson – provided inspiring words of wisdom. Ms. Wilson sent off the graduates with a spectacular solo performance.

2025 was our fourth time featured on Monica Pearson’s Holiday Special! This year the segment was filmed at Druid Hills Presbyterian Church, which allowed for the use of the church’s newly renovated organ (with organist Cliff Frierson) and amazing camera shots of the performers. Ms. Pearson interviewed two AMP alums, Lailah Dozier (AMP ‘22, violin) and Imari Welcher (AMP ‘23, voice). The AMP Senior Youth Orchestra and Choir were conducted by Jordan Owen and Keeyen Martin, respectively.

Musicians from the Antigua & Barbuda Youth Symphony Orchestra joined the tour, and while in Spartanburg, SC musicians from the Spartanburg Philharmonic Youth Orchestra also joined.

The AMP Senior Youth Choir was invited to be in residence at the Pro Musica International Choral Music Festival in Albany, New York. While in Albany our choir stayed on the campus of State University of New York Albany, where they experienced living on a college campus. Our singers were honored for the opportunity to learn from renowned conductors Dr. José Daniel Flores-Caraballo and Rollo Dilworth, and collaborate with young singers from all over the United States and Canada.

Grammy-winning soprano, Karen Slack, gave a rousing performance on Opening Night of the 2025 AMP Summer Series at Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church. Alongside the AMP Summer Series Festival Orchestra and Choir – conducted by John Concklin and Dr. Kay Pace, respectively – Ms. Slack performed famous opera arias, and gave the world premiere of a stunning arrangement of songs by Florence Price. Following multiple standing ovations, Ms. Price returned to the stage for encore. A special evening that many will not soon forget!
